Legislation to improve the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority moves forward in Harrisburg while some city officials have their doubts

Two legislative committees in Harrisburg moved forward legislation Wednesday that aims to improve the current crumbling structure of Pittsburgh’s water and sewer services.
The House Local Government Committee moved forward a proposal-Senate Bill 656- by Sen. Wayne Fontana (D-Brookline) that would allow local governments to tap government funding sources to help citizens fund sewer and water line repairs and replacements.
The bill was passed unanimously by the state Senate last week, along with another proposal by Fontana that would allow local governments to use state PENNVEST funding to assist citizens with repairing and replacing deteriorating water and sewer lines.
