Abortion bill poised for Wolf veto

After a 121-70 vote in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Tuesday evening, Senate Bill 3—legislation that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks of gestation and ban so-called “dismemberment abortions—is poised to head to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk.

 

The governor has vowed to veto the legislation.

The Senate State Government Committee Tuesday advanced legislation sponsored by Sen. Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill) that would reform the way the Office of Lieutenant Governor is filled by making the position one chosen by a party’s candidate for governor to run as a ticket, as opposed to the current method of having the office independently elected.

Senate advances compromise bill on UC funding “exit ramp” bill

The Senate took the step Monday of advancing recently House-passed legislation that would provide an “exit ramp” for the end of state funding for unemployment compensation system technology upgrades.

 

The bill, House Bill 1915, is sponsored by House Labor and Industry Committee Majority Chairman Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) and represents a compromise between House and Senate Republicans and Democrats that provides an exit strategy for the state to get out of funding technology upgrades while still ensuring enough funding to complete the ongoing project.
