Councilman Gilman seeks to ban firearms in Pittsburgh city parks

Unlike Pennsylvania state parks where the use or possession of firearms outside of a law enforcement officer is prohibited, Pittsburgh City Councilman Dan Gilman (District 8) says no such law exists in the city for its city parks.

That’s why on Tuesday he introduced an ordinance before City Council that directly mirrors state law to ban anyone from carrying uncased guns in parks except in areas designated for target practice or hunting during hunting season.

Lawmakers consider placing all municipal water and sewer authorities under control of the PUC

Pittsburgh’s troubled Water and Sewer Authority may not be the only municipal water utility company to be considered for full oversight by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission following a hearing held by the House Consumer Affairs Committee in Harrisburg Monday.

While House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-McCandless) and Rep. Harry Readshaw (D-Baldwin) proposed House Bill 1490 back in June to place the PWSA and its deteriorating system of lead pipes and poor customer service under the control of the PUC, Rep. Tina Davis (D-Bucks) is hoping to take the concept one step further by amending the public utilities law to require all municipal water and sewer authorities across the state be placed under PUC jurisdiction.
