Bills give more flexibility to some parking authorities

Two Senate bills seeking to provide more flexibility to some of Pennsylvania’s local parking authorities moved closer to the conclusion of their legislative process Wednesday as they were unanimously approved the House Local Government Committee.

 

The first bill, Senate Bill 252 by Sen. Randy Vulakovich (R-Allegheny), seeks to provide the Pittsburgh Parking Authority with the ability to enter into private agreements for the lease or license of parking spaces and develop, operate, and/or finance mixed-use projects.

House cranks through amendment process on so-called “paycheck protection” bill

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Tuesday used the bulk of its session day to crank through nearly three dozen amendments—many of which drew significant debate—filed to so-called “paycheck protection” legislation.

 

The underlying legislation, Senate Bill 166 sponsored by Sen. John Eichelberger (R-Blair), would disallow the automatic collection of political action committee money from a unionized public employee’s paycheck, but allow the automatic collection of dues money potentially earmarked for political advocacy purposes.
