Bills to expand open records, transparency at state-related universities in works

Try to obtain information on salaries of administrators at the University of Pittsburgh, or conflicts of interest of Temple University trustees, and a curious Pennsylvanian will hit dead ends.

But a co-sponsor memo from three western Pennsylvania House Republicans would try and push forward with oft talked about but still unachieved transparency reforms that would open up such information on Pennsylvania’s state-related university system to the public.

DePasquale to audit Port Authority of Allegheny County

“Through this audit my team will review the Port Authority’s operation and, if necessary, make recommendations to improve how it can better support the growing economy in greater Pittsburgh,” DePasquale said in a release. 

The report will focus specifically on the authority’s hiring practices for police officers and drivers, as well as how the Port Authority manages its service routes.

Auditor General Eugene DePasquale held a press conference Thursday afternoon where he shared his findings from his year-long review of Pennsylvania's children and youth services. 

DePasquale stated that what he found in his "State of the Child" report is appalling. This report includes seven report observations and also 17 recommendations for improvement.
