Governor appoints new head of School Safety and Security Committee

Gov. Tom Wolf today announced current Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency chairman Charles Ramsey will take over as chair of the School Safety and Security Committee, which was established with the enactment of Act 44 in June.

Spurred by the watershed Parkland shooting early this year, the Pennsylvania General Assembly grappled with the issue of firearm laws through a slew of public hearings, voting meetings and floor votes for relatively little gain in the eyes of gun control activists. New Jersey lawmakers, by contrast, in comparatively short order passed half a dozen measures that supporters argued would make communities safer and less vulnerable to armed attackers, and which opponents lamented as an unacceptable abridgment of fundamental rights.
