Keeping Up with the Neighbors: Referendum keeps redistricting reform moving in Ohio

Previously the PLS Reporter assessed Maryland’s gerrymandering controversy, in which Republicans are seeking to overturn what they believe to be a partisan Democratic gerrymander through the courts. 

Another Pennsylvania neighbor, meanwhile, took the issue of Congressional redistricting to the ballot box earlier last month. Ohio, which itself has a gerrymandering case making its way through the judicial process, passed a referendum measure on May 8 known as State Issue One. It amends the state constitution to establish a process for creating political districts that would require bipartisan support.

Scarnati focuses on redistricting, safe schools and budget at Press Club luncheon

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) was the featured guest at this month’s Press Club Luncheon. During his formal remarks Sen. Scarnati highlighted three key issues: redistricting, safe schools and the state budget, while also commenting on open primaries, regulatory reform, the natural gas industry and more.
