Gov. Wolf to name Insurance Commissioner Miller as Secretary of Health and Human Services should consolidation become a reality

Gov. Tom Wolf held a press conference Tuesday where he stated his intention to nominate Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Teresa Miller to be the Secretary of the proposed Department of Health and Human Services.

This proposed agency combines the Departments of Aging, Drug and Alcohol Programs, Health, and Human Services into one larger department.

Senators skeptical over proposed human services agency consolidation

In a situation unique to recent budget hearing history, four departments up for potential consolidation appeared jointly before the Senate Appropriations Committee Wednesday to answer questions about the proposed merger and various agency operations.

 

Normally appearing separately—as they did in the House—the agencies discussed the merits of the proposed consolidation and worked to assuage the fears of senators skeptical of the alleged benefits of the merger.

Department of Aging announces formation of Long-Term Care Council

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging this week announced the formation of the Long-Term Care Council, authorized under Act 64 of 2015 to replace the Intergovernmental Council on Long-Term Care.

 

The 35-member council will be chaired by Aging Sec. Teresa Osborne and will represent long-term care stakeholders, policymakers, consumers, caregivers, and advocates.
