Wolf creates new advisory commission on LGBTQ rights

With the wave of his pen, Gov. Tom Wolf is aiming to add more representation for the LGBTQ community to Pennsylvania.

In a statement, the Wolf administration announced the creation of the Pennsylvania Commission on LGBTQ Affairs Monday, which they claimed was the first of its kind in the nation, to coordinate and push for more inclusive state policy.

Metcalfe committee tirade prompts Democratic calls for chair resignation

After Rep. Daryl Metcalfe’s (R-Butler) outburst Tuesday over a touch on the arm from Rep. Matthew Bradford (D-Montgomery) that led to the former questioning the sexuality of the latter, Democrats are calling for Metcalfe to resign as majority chairman of the House State Government  Committee.

As the majority chair of that committee, Metcalfe controls whether any civil rights legislation could reach the House floor, including HB 1410, written by Rep. Dan Frankel (D-Allegheny), which would provide workplace discrimination protections for LGBT individuals to state law.

Pittsburgh announces new insurance policy for transgender individuals during equality index reveal

At the announcement of Pittsburgh's perfect score in the Municipal Equality Index, which measures how well city's respect the civil rights of LGBTQ individuals, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto announced that the city's insurance policy will now cover surgical solutions to gender affirmation treatment.
