Testy public hearing on Sunday hunting draws ire of lawmakers, endangers the future of controversial proposal

The House is set to wade into a heated debate over Sunday hunting in the state, with a tense hearing Tuesday a sign of things to come as both legislators and advocacy groups alike sense a new urgency to lifting the 200-plus year-old ban.

This session marks the closest lawmakers have come in some time to signing off on lifting the Sunday ban on most forms of hunting, although the chair of the House Game and Fisheries Committee said the contentious nature of Tuesday’s hearing might endanger the bill’s passage.
