PA Supreme Court denies latest GOP redistricting stay request

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday denied the latest request from legislative Republican leaders to stay the implementation of the new congressional map they handed down last week after finding the 2011 congressional map unconstitutional at the end of January.

 

The order denying the stay was terse, and indicated Chief Justice Thomas Saylor, Justice Sallie Updyke Mundy, and Justice Max Baer dissented from denial.

Gov. Wolf says he will not accept GOP-submitted map, calls it another “partisan gerrymander”

Gov. Tom Wolf Tuesday morning issued his response to the map sent to him by Republican leaders in the state General Assembly last week, telling the Pennsylvania Supreme Court that he will not accept the map since, based on his and his expert’s review, the map is another “partisan gerrymander that does not comply with the court’s order or the Pennsylvania Constitution.”
