The Keystone Scholars Program hopes to “set every child in Pennsylvania up for success”

Pennsylvania currently has the highest student loan debt load per person of any state in the nation. Hoping to alleviate some of that potential debt, the Treasury Department has kicked-off The Keystone Scholars Program.

“We are reaching a crisis point as we see Pennsylvanian graduates, on average, with the highest amount of student loan debt – higher than anywhere else in the nation – with more than $35,000 on their backs,” Treasurer Joe Torsella stated.

Funding questions take center stage ahead of voting machine switch

A top Senate Republican is preparing a bill to let the General Assembly take control of the timeline for Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to replace their voting machines, but action could run afoul of a newly-settled lawsuit.

In response to a plan from Gov. Tom Wolf released in April, Senate Majority Whip John Gordner (R-Columbia) is circulating a co-sponsor memo to delay the decertification of any state voting machines until Wolf and the legislature can agree on funding the estimated $125 million expense.
