Ending lawmaker car leases on House agenda for fall session

When 27 state House members drive back into Harrisburg in two weeks, they may be asked to vote on keeping the wheels that brought them to session.

Multiple House Republican members and staffers expect HB 482 from Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford) to come for a floor vote during the first week back. The bill would eliminate the leasing of state vehicles to elected lawmakers going forward — but those currently with a car would be grandfathered in.

Gov. Wolf continues push for government reform plan

Gov. Tom Wolf held a capital-area news conference Monday to push for the government reform plan he unveiled last week.

The governor’s plan would call for a gift ban for all public officials, provide for contracting reform, increase lobbying oversight, and provide increased transparency by providing for comprehensive campaign finance reform and other areas like requiring public officials to disclose the amount of outside income.

Bipartisan proposal would allow citizens to decide lawmaker compensation

A bipartisan proposal introduced in the House, and soon to be introduced in the Senate, would create a commission of citizens that would decide at what level lawmakers should be compensated, sponsors told The PLS Reporter Tuesday.

The proposal, based on a similar endeavor currently in place in California, is considered by those pushing for it to be a good government reform measure that stems from the infamous 2005 pay raise.
