Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and Rep. Judy Ward (R-Blair) have joined together to create legislation that would make it illegal for a woman to have an abortion based solely on the fact that a baby has Down Syndrome.

Bill putting new regulations on abortion passes House along bipartisan vote

Amid June’s budget gauntlet, usually one or two other controversial topics see some form of legislative action and that occurred Tuesday when the House scheduled a vote on House Bill 1948, controversial legislation that would place new regulations on abortion in Pennsylvania.

Introduced with bipartisan sponsorship, House Bill 1949 would make it illegal to perform an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and ban so-called fetal-dismemberment abortions.
