DePasquale, Torsella warn lawmakers that internal borrowing to plug General Fund holes might be a thing of the past

In a letter to lawmakers dated Wednesday, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale and Treasurer Joe Torsella warmed members of the General Assembly that the “Commonwealth’s fiscal challenges” might put an end to the often-used tool of borrowing from Treasury funds to ensure the General Fund does not fall into a negative balance.

Hoping to lead by example, Auditor General posts office’s expenses online

Auditor General Eugene DePasquale Wednesday announced he has taken the step of putting all of his office’s expenses online, hoping to lead by example for other governmental entities.

 

Back in 2015, DePasquale began posting his travel expenses online. He said in a statement Wednesday that the further posting of all expenses from his office is a further step in his commitment to transparency.

Auditor General to review state grant agreement for DNC funds

In response to a letter from Senate Republican leaders and comments made by Gov. Tom Wolf, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale said he has instructed his staff to conduct a thorough review of the grant agreement that allowed $10 million in taxpayer funds to go to help fund the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last year, following reports that showed that a surplus in DNC funds went to staff bonuses.

Auditor General releases performance audit of UC system, calls findings “stunning”

Auditor General Eugene DePasquale Tuesday released a long-awaited audit of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s unemployment compensation system call centers and funding that was supposed to be used for technology upgrades and system infrastructure improvements.

 

DePasquale’s office started the audit earlier this year after a number of legislators requested his office look into spending related to the Service and Infrastructure Improvement Fund within the UC system following the refusal of Senate Republicans to vote on legislation extending SIIF funding due to concerns over mismanagement of money and the failure of the Wolf administration to lay out a plan to relieve the state of funding what used to be federal obligations.
