PA receives an "F" when it comes to lead in schools, prompting legislators to make a change

Sen. Arthur Haywood (D-Montgomery) joined Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Philadelphia) and Rep. Donna Bullock (D-Philadelphia) at a press conference to express their concerns over lead levels in Pennsylvania schools.

Haywood stated that there are at least 12 cities and towns across the commonwealth that tested for high levels of lead. Pennsylvania as a whole received the grade F when it comes to lead in water by a group called "Get the Lead Out."

In response the legislature made two changes in the School Code as part of budget negotiations. Now, all schools must test for lead or have a public hearing on the issue of lead in their facilities.
