This week Gov. Wolf issued a statewide disaster declaration in response to the commonwealth's ongoing opioid abuse crisis. As a practical matter the declaration, which expires in 90 days, relieves certain regulatory requirements to streamline the process of admitting individuals for drug addiction treatment, will help make anti-overdose drug naloxone more widely available, and will reclassify fentanyl as a schedule 1 narcotic.
