The House this week took up severance tax legislation, HB 1401, and began consideration of the hundreds of amendments that have been filed to the bill. While contentious debate went until 11 p.m. on Monday night, a motion to adjourn passed Tuesday afternoon and the issue will remain in limbo at least until the House returns in early December.

In between severance tax amendments, the House did manage to pass a reauthorization of CHIP - the state's children's health insurance program - without language inserted by the Senate that would strip coverage for transgender services. That language will be taken up in separate legislation in the chamber.

Following shortly after the untimely passing of Rep. Dan McNeill (D-Lehigh), the House experienced another - albeit temporary - loss as Blair County Republican John McGinnis suffered a stroke early Saturday. Rep. McGinnis is reported to be recovering and expected to be released from hospital before Thanksgiving.
