Capitol Quick Hits for 4.4.16

Here are the highlights from news conferences, rallies, and advocacy days held in the Capitol today: 

  •  The Pennsylvania Humane Society met for an advocacy day in Harrisburg and to announce that Rep. Kevin Schreiber (D-York) has been selected as their legislator of the year. The State Director of the Humane Society said Rep. Schreiber is responsible for introducing and cosponsoring legislation related to establishing an animal  cruelty prevention month (HR 92), a puppy mill bill (HB 492) and a bill to keep animals out of hot cars (HB 1516).
  • Volunteers with the American Heart Association converged in the Main Capitol Rotunda to advocate for legislation to give life-saving CPR skills to every high school graduate. Two high school students who have taken the issue to heart and trained students in their own schools gave testimony during the ceremony.
  • The Pennsylvania Psychological Association held a press conference in the East Wing Rotunda to offer strategies for individuals to overcome interpersonal violence.
