Here are the highlights from news conferences, rallies, and advocacy days held in the Capitol today: 

  • Rep. Karen Boback (R-Luzerne) was joined by Rep. Maria Donatucci (D-Philadelphia) and advocates to emphasize the importance of colon cancer screening and awareness. Rep. Boback announced HR 760 which designates March 31, 2016, as C.A.S.U.A.L. Day in Pennsylvania. C.A.S.U.A.L stands for colon cancer awareness saves unlimited adult lives, she explained, noting that it was developed by the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute.
  • The Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) held a press conference in the Main Rotunda to urge Gov. Tom Wolf to sign the budget. Hannah Barrick, Director of Advocacy for PASBO, said the organization was joined by more than 20 school districts across Pennsylvania to call for an immediate resolution to the 2015-16 budget.
  • The Department of Health hosted an event this morning to support and promote the appropriate use of antibiotics by launching the fourth-annual Get Smart Competition for Young Artists and Writers.
  • Members of the Senate Democratic Caucus today unveiled a legislative package aimed at addressing heightened concerns in the commonwealth following revelations of lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan. Sen. Vince Hughes (D-Philadelphia) said Pennsylvania ranks second in the nation in lead levels among children according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
